Colin and Anna...I am counting on you to know the answer to this one!!!
I don't even know where to begin with this absolutely amazing and exhausting day...yes you read the time posted correctly...I have been awake for 32 hours. The flight was pretty uneventful except I was that annoying person who couldn't get comfortable. The bus ride to Oxford was also pretty uneventful (except it took us forever because of rush hour).
I cannot even begin to express in words how amazingly beautiful Oxford is...I will be posting pictures as soon as I have the chance! I know there are some of you *cough cough Mom cough cough* who will want a play by play so I shall give it to you! We arrived and I saw my room...pictures are to come later. I must admit I was a little disappointed since I had been building it up in my head (although walking three flights to the shower is pretty disappointing). My roommate, Lauren, is great though. We are taking the same two seminars so we are going to be study buddies too!
The bus ride was very important to my successful first day. I made some great friends on the bus...and one I actually already had (she is really good friends with Caitlin). I really think the bus ride set the stage for a great day. We arrived in Oxford at 1030 and had about 1.5 hours to check in and get unpacked because a group of us was meeting to go to lunch. We ended up running some errands and also getting lunch (I have spent more money than anticipated on the first day) and then heading back to Trinity College (a college within Oxford University). We had a walking tour at 1430 (yes they are in "military time" here) and saw so much more of the beauty Oxford has to offer. After the walking tour Brittany and I had our first pint...Fosters was the beer of choice. We then got ready for a fancy evening. Every Monday night is a fancy five course meal. We first had an orientation meeting and then met with our tutors. I am not quite sure how that is going to go so I will keep you updated but I certainly have plenty of work to do until Thursday! Following that was pre-dinner champagne in the quad where I was able to mingle. Dinner was actually good....I had duck!!!! After dinner (Around 2200) we went to the pub that is inside the college. I must say that has been one of the most surprising things is how down people are with drinking. I think the tutors (who are old as dinosaurs) were more rowdy than we were at dinner and then joined us at the pub after dinner! And now I am in my room blogging about to fall asleep :) This day has completely exceeded all of my expectations and I can't wait to share even more with you!
Love to all!!!
Courtney
